RELATED EXPERIENCE

Systems Engineer, GE Capital Modular Space
Malvern Service Center, Malvern, PA. (6/96-present)
  • Primary UNIX administrator for four HP 9000 and seven Sun SPARC servers in three locations. Responsible for all hardware and software maintenance/support, performance tuning, security, disk/volume management, system backups, user administration, and Year-2000 remediation.
  • Consolidated entire production database-system environment from six Sun Enterprise Servers onto three HP 9000 K-class and one D-class server. Performance and reliability has been greatly improved while reducing operating and maintenance costs over the next three years. The new environment includes a High-Availability cluster, an off-site disaster recovery environment, and EMC fibre-connected storage.
  • Migrated eight Sun production servers from SPARC Storage Arrays onto a single EMC Symmetrix using SCSI load balancing and disk striping. This resulted in consolidated disk storage, improved performance and reliability, and reduced operationing costs.
  • Secondary administrator for several multiprocessor Compaq x86 servers running Citrix Winframe and MS Terminal Server with Citrix Metaframe
  • Created a network and host monitoring system using NOCOL and added a custom pager notification system using Perl.
  • Implemented a corporate DNS server solution using Solaris 2.6 that included an off-site secondary server
  • Integrated NTP into our UNIX and NT server environment for accurate synchonization of system clocks
  • Specified and ordered Frame Relay WAN circuits, routers, and CSU/DSUs for remote office locations
  • Developed internal Intranet Web Site to make business information, reports, and policies available online
  • Installed and configured virtual web servers using Netscape Enterprise Server 2.01
  • Installed and configured Netscape Proxy Server 3.52 in a two-tired proxy environment for caching and filtering of HTTP requests to external sites
